3. Trenton Simpson – Linebacker, JR

  • 110 tackles
  • 18.5 tackles for loss
  • 10.0 sacks
  • 3 pass breakups
  • 1 forced fumble

The lone returning linebacker starter from 2021, Simpson is now the leader of the back seven of Clemson’s defense. I’m looking forward to see how Simpson will be used in Wes Goodwin’s strategy for 2022. He has impressed NFL analysts like CBS’s Chris Trapasso enough to be compared to Micah Parsons.

We might find Simpson roving all over the defense this season as hybrid-players step into the formation in place of the strong-side linebacker. Lining up at WILL & MIKE does not sound out of the realm of possibility, which could make his stock even stronger for the NFL. If Simpson has the kind of year many of this think he could have, it will probably be his last season in Death Valley.
