Two commitments in two days: Reid Mikeska commits to Clemson football
By John Chancey
247 Composite three star tight end Reid Mikeska has verbally committed to the Clemson Tigers. Mikeska announced his commitment on Instagram Wednesday evening. The Bridgeland High School prospect out of Cypress, TX had included Clemson in his Top 12 in March.
Until yesterday, Clemson had only received one commitment for the 2023 Class, that being four star wide receiver Nathaniel Joseph of Miami Edison High School in Florida. That changed Tuesday night when four star quarterback Christopher Vizzina of Briarwood Christian School announced that he will be joining the Tigers in 2023.
Mikeska’s commitment gives Clemson two in the last two days. He planned to attend Clemson’s spring game on April 9, but a canceled flight disrupted those plans.
This announcement gives Clemson even more momentum heading into the final month of spring. Multiple prospects that have been offered by the Tigers plan to announce their commitments by the end of summer. Several of them hold Crystal Ball predictions for Clemson, including four star offensive tackles Zechariah Owens and Sullivan Absher, four star defensive end David Ojiegbe and five star defensive tackle Vic Burley.
Clemson recently adjusted their recruiting policy by allowing official visits for a select number of recruits in June. Previously, the Tigers held all official visits in the fall, to encourage recruits to attend during a home game weekend. Several recruits in the last few cycles have decided to verbally commit before their senior high school season begins. Coach Swinney and the staff have elected to modify their policy to keep up with the shifts in recruiting. One example is linebacker prospect Jamal Anderson, who will make his official visit to Clemson on June 3-5.

I wrote that Vizzina‘s commitment would be a shot in the arm for Clemson’s 2023 recruiting, and and I think Mikeska’s choice coming so close behind is another boost. If there are prospects who are on the verge of making their verbal commitment in favor of Clemson, seeing the excitement of Vizzina’s and Mikeska’s announcements could be what motivates them to finalize their decision. It could also be a factor for those recruits that still aren’t sure which way they are leaning. When they see the the Tigers gain momentum, it could tip the scales in their favor.
