Clemson football: Vizzina Crystal Balled to Clemson, will commit Tuesday

Clemson football target class of 2023 quarterback Christopher Vizzina has announced that he will verbally commit on Tuesday April 12 at 4:00 PM.

The senior from Briarwood Christian in Birmingham, Alabama has a top six of Clemson, Auburn, Georgia, Ole Miss, Ohio State and Notre Dame.

Clemson has long been considered a legitimate front-runner for Vizzina, who is rated as a four star prospect on the 247 Sports Composite.

There have been rumblings that some commitments involving the Tigers were imminent. Now one of the top recruiting experts, Steve Wiltfong, has put in a Crystal Ball prediction that Vizzina will select Clemson. He has included a strength of 7, which is considered a high likelihood. Wiltfong has a 91.19% success rate for Crystal Balls. He doesn’t usually put in official predictions unless he has a strong indication of where a recruit will commit.

Vizzina has visited Clemson twice in the past few days, including this past weekend for the Spring Game. Some recruiting analysts have believed Vizzina was doing his due diligence by visiting all of his finalists before circling back to see Clemson.

The Tigers only have one verbal commitment for the Class of 2023 so far, but a commitment from Vizzina could jumpstart Clemson’s recruiting. This upcoming class is particularly important for the defensive side of the ball. Several starters from the defensive line will likely be moving on after this season. It will be important for the Tigers to replenish their stock on talented hog mollies before the 2023 season.

It is also believed that Vizzina’s commitment could cause some of the national quarterback recruiting dominoes to start falling. Ohio State and Notre Dame have both begun recruiting Detroit, MI prospect Dante Moore in anticipation of Vizzina’s commitment elsewhere. The SEC powers in Vizzina’s Top Six will shift focus to other candidates quickly as well.

Clemson’s staff have been consistent with their approach to recruiting, and often focus on a smaller number of offers than most schools. It can be unnerving when they miss on a target because they often aren’t actively recruiting alternate candidates. It does appear their strategy has worked with Vizzina, and with a highly-rated quarterback recruit verbally committed, they will have one important task out of the way for the Class of 2023.
