Quarterbacks
As expected there was plenty of good and plenty of not so good.
D.J. Uiagalelei still has work to do and I don’t think any of us thought he would magically be “fixed” this spring. I’m not sure how to say it otherwise, but he appears snakebit to some degree. When his receivers are open, he misses them. When he throws a beautiful pass the receivers drop it. This happened throughout last year as there were many big drops over the course of the season. I can’t explain it and maybe it’s in my head, but for whatever reason, it isn’t working, but it’s not all his fault.
Cade Klubnik looks as polished and ready as a quarterback can be with a few months on campus. Living in the Austin area I expected no less. I’ve watched him for two years lead a team full of expectations for State Championships without blinking. Not just any high school team, one with a legacy of Drew Brees, Nick Foles and Sam Ehlinger, among others.
Sure Klubnik struggled at times, but you could see the talent and leadership bursting through and are excited about the position moving forward.
As one observer put it, “Klubnik puts the dual back in the dual threat”.
Former Tiger QB Tucker Israel checked in on Twitter with this take:
All that said, Dabo has indicated D.J. is the starter and has done nothing to lose the job.
