Clemson Football: Tyler Grisham is On the Road Again
The philosophy of Clemson football on the recruiting trail is well known in most circles, but for the newest recruits, it’s sometimes a surprise being that it’s different from most top 10 programs.
First, the Tigers don’t offer just anyone, as evidenced by the two offers at quarterback and three at running back for the 2023 cycle shows.
They also don’t generally offer early, waiting until the players become at least high school juniors before pulling the trigger.
This sometimes frustrates fans and leaves them feeling like the Tigers missed out on a few sure things, or at least an opportunity to get further along in the process with some top recruits.
"“It can be somewhat challenging, But once the recruits understand our philosophy and that is explained to them, they can appreciate it. And again, high school coaches appreciate it.”"
Grisham believes in the philosophy as is, though there may be some tweaking done.
There’s a segment of the fanbase that believes Clemson should change its philosophy and do what everyone else is doing: Offering early and often.
It remains to be seen if the big misses Clemson has had in the last couple of years is related to the lack of travel for the coaches and the ability to get recruits on campus, or that the Tigers philosophy is outdated.
The most important thing for Clemson is that the coaches are back on the road again after being stymied due to the pandemic and this is Grisham’s first spring on the road and of course, recruits are able to experience Clemson with on campus visits.
For his part, Grisham believes he’s in the correct role.
"“I think it fits me well, I enjoy recruiting, I really do,” Grisham said. “This is my first spring ever to go on the road. I’ve never gone on the road and recruited in the spring because of Covid. So that’ll be new and exciting, to meet my area coaches. I’ve been on the phone with my area coaches but I’ve never met hardly any of them in person.”"
Recruiting is a results oriented business. Saying the right things is part of it, but the proof comes in December and February when the results are tabulated and compared to your competition.
That’ll be ultimate judge on whether it’s a good fit or not.
