After playing well and winning the first fourteen games of the 2022 season, the baseball team fell to Northeastern at Doug Kingsmore Stadium on Sunday.

The Huskies took advantage of three Clemson errors, 4 hit by pitches and a walk in taking the game 5-3.

Northeastern starter Wyatt Scotti was dominant, throwing 7.1 innings while striking out 11 and giving up only 5 hits: 3 singles to Tyler Corbitt and home runs to Max Wagner and Jonathan French.

The Tigers wasted a decent start by Nick Clayton, who gave up only one earned run in 4.1 innings, with three strikeouts and a walk as the defense faltered behind him.

Clemson won game one Friday, 9-6, behind Mack Anglin and timely hitting with long balls from Max Wagner and Jonathan French.

Saturday’s game was more of the same as the Tigers went nine for twenty four with runners in scoring position to hit double digits in a 10-4 win.

Nick Hoffman hurled seven strong innings and Clemson racked up 15 hits, including home runs from Cooper Ingle and Caden Grice.

The fourteen consecutive wins to start the season was the third longest streak in Clemson history and along the way the Tigers swept three game series with Indiana, Hartford and South Carolina, single games against Charleston, USC-Upstate and Michigan State, along with the first two in this series.

After hosting Georgia State (9-5) on Tuesday, the Tigers welcome the 10-4 Miami Hurricanes in the first ACC series of the season next Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Clemson entered Sunday ranked as high as 18th with an RPI of 7.

Monte Lee’s club is coming off the first losing season in 64 years after finishing last season at 25-27.

The schedule gets noticeably tougher over the next several weeks as ACC play begins with the Hurricanes, North Carolina State, Notre Dame and Wake Forest in tap, not to mention mid-week games against Coastal Carolina and Georgia (2).

Entering Sunday the Tigers were one of three remaining undefeated Division I baseball teams left, along with Virginia (13-0) and Purdue (13-0).
