Three totally reasonable expectations for Clemson football against Georgia Tech

2. D.J. Uiagalelei shows clear improvement

I’m not sure it’s reasonable to expect D.J. Uiagalelei to throw for 400 yards and five touchdowns, even if it is against a lesser opponent in Georgia Tech. I want to make clear that he’s more than capable of it– and we saw that last season– but at this point, it seems we’re going to have to settle with slow and steady improvements.

Last week against S.C. State, Uiagalelei completed less than 60 percent of his passes and finished the afternoon with just 171 yards passing and one touchdown with one interception.

This week against a more formidable opponent– well, they’re at least FBS level– we expect that Uiagalelei will take a step forward. And that’s a reasonable expectation.

Perhaps he completes more than 60 percent of his passes and throws a couple of touchdown passes. Maybe he connects on a deep ball and refrains from throwing an interception.

We all know the talent is there, but it’s going to take some time for him to get comfortable being the leader of this offense and all the mental obstacles that come with it.

So, what’s the realistic expectation? It’s that he shows steady, but clear improvement this week.
