The 2021 Clemson football season will be defined by these things

4. The defensive adjustments made by Brent Venables

Brent Venables was embarrassed by Ryan Day in the CFB Playoff semifinals, there’s no way around it.

He’s had an entire offseason to look back at that tape and you can tell from the interviews he’s done and his demeanor that it didn’t sit well with him. Venables has a chip on his shoulder coming into this season and he has challenged his defense in a big way.

This is going to be a deep defensive unit with plenty of talent all over the field, but one of the things that will define this season will be the scheming plan by Venables.

How does he adjust to more teams trying to break the huddle late and not give him a chance to make audibles at the line of scrimmage? How does he approach this new age of College Football offenses and the run-pass-option (RPO) attack that has taken over the game?

Look for innovative techniques from Venables and look for him to play to his personnel this season even more than what we’ve seen even in previous years.
