One of the top targets in the 2022 Clemson football recruiting class is nearing a decision.

5-star DT Travis Shaw posted a cryptic Tweet on Monday morning where he implied it might be getting close to time for him to potentially make a decision.

Shaw, a 6-foot-5 and 310 pound prospect from Greensboro, NC, is rated as the No. 3 overall player in the nation and the No. 2 DT in the country by 247 Sports’ composite player rankings. He is rated as the No. 1 DT in the country and the No. 3 overall player by Rivals.com.

What’s the outlook for Clemson football when it comes to Travis Shaw?

If you look at Shaw’s 247 sports’ crystal ball predictions, you’ll see a relatively high percentage of experts– currently 83 percent– who believe he’s going to Clemson football.

The competition for the Tigers? North Carolina and Georgia. And believe us, it’s much stiffer competition than what the crystal ball predictor might indicate.

Though 83 percent of those crystal ball predictions have him going to Clemson, it should be noted that the latest prediction– from Clemson 247’s Anna Hickey– has him going to North Carolina.

From the accounts we’ve heard, this is a solid three-team race and it would be tough to count any of those three schools out of the competition at this point.

There was a point earlier this summer where Shaw had seemingly become a Georgia-UNC battle, but he made the trip to Clemson’s All-In Cookout and the Tigers made a solid impression on him by all accounts.

One of the most intriguing parts of his recruitment is the fact that one of his close friends might play a factor. 4-star LB Jalon Walker, who chose UGA over Clemson earlier this spring, has been recruiting Shaw heavily over the last few months and it’s clear that Athens has an intrigue to it when it comes to his decision.
