Conference Realignment storylines for Clemson football fans to watch

Storyline No. 3: SEC’s quest for ‘world domination’

If you have missed it, the SEC is on a quest for world domination. At least, that’s what many are reporting.

The SEC may stay at 16 teams for a while, but the overarching belief from industry insiders is that the conference has its eyes set on something much bigger.

"“Industry sources have indicated to ESPN that this might be only the first step in the SEC’s grand plan to create a true superconference, which a source said might include as many as 60 teams or as few as 32,” ESPN analyst Mark Schlabach wrote. “If it’s a bigger number of schools, then the sport’s upper echelon would include four superconferences, and the ACC, Big Ten, Pac-12 and SEC would remain as stand-alone entities. If the Big 12 doesn’t survive, some of its teams would probably be absorbed by the remaining leagues, while others would fall to the AAC, Mountain West or other non-Power 5 conferences.”"

If the SEC is serious about creating a superconference- whether than be 20, 24, 30 or even bigger- you’ve got to believe the conference is going to do it before it’s all said and done.

The SEC has been proactive- more so than any other conference in the country- about continuously looking out for its best interest and now it is set to potentially pay out more than $60 million per school in television revenue each year.

The SEC may only have one move in the immediate future in adding Texas and Oklahoma, but make no mistake about it: The conference is just beginning and there’s a master plan that expands past this surface move.
