Clemson football not likely to pull 5-star DE from Alabama
Though many were hopeful that the Clemson football coaching staff could pull the top player from the state of Alabama, it’s not looking likely just days ahead of his commitment date.
5-star DE Jeremiah Alexander listed Clemson as his favorite just a few weeks back when he made the trip to Tiger Town and things seemed to be trending in the right direction. However, over the course of the last few days, it has come to light through several reports that it’s not looking likely that he’ll be selecting the Tigers on his commitment date.
Alexander, the No. 1 player from the state of Alabama and the No. 1 overall DE in the nation according to the 247 Sports’ composite player rankings, is set to announce a commitment on Thursday.
Alexander is reportedly deciding between Clemson, Alabama and Georgia. He was previously a Crimson Tide commit and all information coming out as we head closer to the decision is that he’ll likely announce a recommitment to Alabama.
If Alexander does commit to Alabama, Clemson football has some other options available for its second DE opening
There’s no doubt that the Tigers are wanting Alexander- and it’s not hard to see why- but if he does end up choosing the Crimson Tide, Clemson still has options for its second defensive end pickup in the 2022 recruiting cycle.
Here’s the three we would peg as the most likely options:
- 4-star Cyrus Moss
- 4-star Kenyatta Jackson
- 4-star DJ Wesolak
You can never know anything for sure, but we would say that Alexander committing to Clemson on Thursday would be a major surprise at this point. It’s extremely hard to pull away top talent from Alabama and that seems to be the case here.
It will be interesting to see what happens at the position over the next few weeks as the Tigers prepare for the All-In Cookout. We would imagine that they would want their top defensive end target to be on-campus if at all possible for the event.
