Clemson football: 4 Tigers who are already angling for NIL as it is now legal
Clemson football players are well-aware that Name, Image, Likeness (NIL) legislation has officially gone into effect in many states and that the NCAA has been put in its place when it comes to its ability to dictate rules of amateurism that have been in effect for decades.
Because of the NCAA’s inability to hold its same standards, the organization passed an interim NIL legislation bill that essentially will allow all student-athletes to benefit from their name, image and likeness beginning now.
The state of South Carolina officially signed an NIL bill that is set to go into effect in July of 2022, but there is a belief among some experts that the timeline of implementation following the NCAA’s decision could be revisited.
Because of that, we’re already seeing many Clemson football players angling for Name, Image & Likeness deals. Here’s a look at four Tigers who are making potential moves for NIL.
D.J. Uiagalelei
If you were thinking of one Tiger who stood the most to gain from NIL on the current roster, the first name that probably comes to mind is QB D.J. Uiagalelei.
Uiagalelei is taking over as the new face of the Clemson football program and there’s no doubt that he could make quite the revenue from NIL.
Who might be the first corporate sponsor to reach out? Uiagalelei is at least angling that it might be Delta.
There’s no doubt that college athletes across the country are beginning to work on angles to potentially benefit from NIL and this is just a small example coming from the Tigers’ starting quarterback.
