Clemson football: Dabo Swinney talks leadership, faith, culture and life
Clemson football head coach Dabo Swinney joined best-selling author and life strategist Ed Mylett on his weekly podcast and as usual, Coach Swinney did not disappoint.
Over the last year and a half, many people have struggled with the mental health aspect of living in a pandemic, and all the changing of nuances that we have had to adapt to as our way of life is constantly being interrupted and changed.
There aren’t two better people to talk about that struggle and adaptation than Clemson football head coach Dabo Swinney and Ed Mylett.
Coach Swinney is a master of words and a master motivator, if you are paying attention to anything he does, you know this already. However, there are many people blinded by the fact that he is a champion on the field and off the field and want to hate on anything he says for that reason.
Clemson football has benefitted in many ways because of how Swinney looks at life
“Embrace the suck” is a saying that many past and present Clemson football players have heard Coach Swinney recite over and over again.
Too many times in life, we all look ahead to a hopeful outcome and miss the journey along the way and according to Swinney, the journey is what you remember. Lifting trophies are great but the 5:00 am workouts, the bus rides, and the grueling practices are what you will remember the most 20, 30, or 40 years from now.
Whether you ever play for Coach Swinney and Clemson football that is advice that everyone can take and utilize in their day-to-day lives.
Monday mornings, we are all guilty of looking ahead to the pending weekend. That means we have five full days of life that we are willingly overlooking to get to that point. To Swinney’s point, we should embrace those five days as well and not take a single day for granted.
Do yourself a favor and take an hour and listen to the beautiful madness that is Coach Swinney and it will definitely help change your perception of your own journey and also give you better insight as to why Clemson football has been so successful under Dabo Swinney – much to the chagrin of others in and around college football.
