The Clemson football coaching staff has some major work to do on the recruiting trail as we head into the summer.

Clemson currently possesses just four commitments for the class of 2022, but there is optimism that the Tigers could have a big-time couple of months as visits are allowed to commence and they’re able to welcome some of their top targets back on campus.

There is a growing number of prospects who’ll be taking a visit- or multiples- to Clemson this summer and you can now add another highly-touted name to the list.

According to a report from Recruiting Insider Hayes Fawcett, 5-star DE Jeremiah Alexander is set to take several visits this summer and the first of which will be to Clemson.

Alexander is set to visit Clemson on June 1st followed by Georgia on June 3rd. He’ll then take a weekend trip to UCF and is planning to set up dates for both Alabama and Florida in the near future.

Clemson football has not zeroed-in on its top targets at the defensive end spot and getting Alexander on campus might help clarify what direction the Tigers need to head

The truth is that the Tigers have not begun to ‘zero in’ on a prospect or two at the defensive end position. Currently, it’s six players who they are recruiting, but there is still a ‘feeling out’ process happening as they decide what direction they want to take.

Here’s a look at those six names, headlined by Alexander:

  • 5-star Jeremiah Alexander
  • 5-star Shemar Stewart
  • 4-star Enai White
  • 4-star Cyrus Moss
  • 4-star Kenyatta Jackson
  • 4-star Jihaad Campbell
  • 4-star DJ Wesolak

Alexander is rated as the No. 1 edge-rusher in the country and the No. 1 overall player from the state of Alabama. He is ranked as the No. 14 overall player in the nation, according to the 247 Sports’ Composite Player Rankings.

If Clemson is going to somehow win the Alexander’s recruitment, the Tigers are going to have to go through Alabama.

Alexander has two crystal ball predictions currently put in and they’re both to the Crimson Tide with one being considered a ‘lock.’ It’s simply not that often that the best player in the state of Alabama leaves, but it has happened on rare occasions- we’re looking at you, Justyn Ross.

There’s no doubt that the Tigers have some work to do if they’re going to go after Alexander, but it all starts with getting him on campus. If they’re able to do that, there’s always a chance.

At this point, though, we would say it’s an extreme longshot for Clemson football to be the victor in his recruitment.
