There doesn’t seem to be anything in the way of Dabo Swinney & the Clemson football program setting its sights on a record against its in-state rival in South Carolina.

Clemson currently holds six-game winning streak over the Gamecocks and during that time period, the Tigers have beaten South Carolina by an average margin of 23.7 points per game.

The largest victory during this massive span was in 2016 when the Tigers downed the Gamecocks 56-7. The closest game was in Williams-Brice Stadium the year before when South Carolina lost by just five (37-32) on an afternoon when the Clemson defense had some trouble getting off the field.

The Clemson football program has its eyes set on a record heading into the 2021 season

The longest win streak in the rivalry history is seven and Clemson football reached that feat in 1940. Since that point, the Tigers had won four-straight several times and, as we just said, they’re up to six-straight as we begin this season.

There’s almost no doubt that had the pandemic not come along and had the SEC not canceled its non-conference games, including the in-state rivalries, that the Tigers would’ve already achieved the feat of seven-straight and they’d be going for the record this season with a chance at breaking the record the following year in 2022.

Still, getting to seven will be a major accomplishment in terms of the rivalry. Year-in and year-out, Clemson has been beating South Carolina over the course of this rivalry, but there’s something about consecutive wins and what it says about the dominance of your program.

We’re approaching close to 3,000 days since the Gamecocks won a game in the rivalry (2,734 to be exact at the time of this writing) and it will be interesting to see how far that number will climb before the streak comes to an end.

Could the Tigers experience a decades-worth of winning in a row? It’s certainly not out of the question.
