The rivalry between Clemson football and the Alabama Crimson Tide has run deep over the past half-decade and it doesn’t seem like it will be going away anytime soon.

While the Tigers and Tide have not matched up since January of 2019, both fan bases have consistently kept up with one another considering that at least one of the two programs has played in the National Championship game each of the last six years.

Clemson has won two National Championships in that time while Alabama has won three, including the most recent one.

Alabama and Clemson met on the softball diamond this past weekend in the NCAA Tuscaloosa Regional where the Tide won both matchups, but a little quip from an Alabama media member had nothing to do with the softball games.

TideSports’ Cecil Hurt tweeted about the crowd scenes at the PGA Tour and he had this to say:

If you’re unsure what he’s talking, below is a tweet from the PGA Tour that saw fans celebrating and almost “rushing the greens” following a win from Phil Mickelson Sunday afternoon.

Hurt is referencing how Clemson football fans “Gather at the Paw” after every home game

Fans across the country have envied and hated on Clemson’s tradition of gathering at the paw for quite some time. Hurt’s comment, followed by a massive amount of fans who hate on the tradition, was nothing new.

It’s funny how many ‘SEC fans’ love to tell Clemson football fans that the tradition shows an inferiority complex and that Tiger fans need to “act like they’ve been there.”

Last time we checked, unless your name is Alabama (and LSU for a single season), you haven’t “been there” in quite some time.

People love hating on traditions and look to trash the ACC at any point they possibly can, but the truth of the matter is that gathering at the paw has nothing to do with the opponent and it never has.

Just because people in Alabama have forgotten how to celebrate wins doesn’t mean that Clemson fans have to follow suit. There’s nothing wrong with experiencing joy all season long and appreciating every single win.

There’s also nothing wrong with taking part in a tradition that has been happening for decades and signifies the family atmosphere that Clemson has always been about- much more than any other University in the nation, we might add.
