Clemson coach Dabo Swinney made a stop by the Clemson softball facility to wish the team well before they made the trip down to Tuscaloosa, Alabama and he was able to blast a pitch along the way, as well.

Swinney spent a little while with the coaches and players before getting in the batter’s box and hitting a line drive off a pitch. Nothing could’ve made the celebration better than his signature ‘bat flip,’ with the glasses on we should mention.

After the hit, Swinney said “that made his day” and he joked with Valerie Cagle by saying “I don’t think I could hit off you right now.”

He finished it off by telling them to “go get ’em and we’re proud of y’all.”

Dabo Swinney knows a thing or two about beating Alabama

The Clemson softball team will head down to Tuscaloosa to play in the NCAA Softball Regional beginning Friday evening.

The Tigers will open up with Troy at 3 p.m. Friday and the expectation is that they’ll have the opportunity to take on the Alabama Crimson Tide at some point in the weekend. Most likely, to advance to the Super-Regionals, they’ll have to beat the Crimson Tide twice.

Alabama, the No. 3 national seed in the tournament, has not lost a Regional it has been in since 2005. The Crimson Tide have also recorded a 40-game win streak in the regionals, which dates back to 2007.

Honestly, if there was ever going to be an ‘underdog’ to knock off Alabama, it would have to be Clemson, right?

Dabo Swinney, who visited with the softball team, knows all about being the underdog against an Alabama powerhouse and maybe a visit from him provides just a little more motivation for the Tigers as they head down set to accomplish what seems almost impossible.

It will be fun to see what happens in the end, but no one can deny that this has been a special season for Clemson softball and they’ve been able to accomplish things this season that have made Dabo Swinney turn his head.
