Trevor Lawrence has the approval of legendary wrestler Ric Flair
Former Clemson QB Trevor Lawrence was taken by the Jacksonville Jaguars with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft just a few weeks ago and he’s now just a few months away from making his anticipated debut.
While Lawrence has received mixed reviews from analysts and celebrities for quite some time now, the latest to chime in on him is legendary professional wrestler Ric Flair.
Flair, who was known for his larger-than-life personality and elite in-ring work, appeared on a podcast with Conrad Thompson recently to discuss the wrestling business and was asked about Trevor Lawrence and what the Jaguars might be able to accomplish with their new franchise QB.
Flair said he was enamored with the hype of Lawrence and believes he has the potential for greatness.
"“I don’t know Trevor Lawrence,” Flair said. “But if he lives up to only half the hype, it’s going to be great. It gives that organization some notoriety.”"
Outside of his words on Trevor Lawrence, Ric Flair also shares another common ground with Clemson football fans: His dislike of Ohio State.
"“I’m not a big fan of Urban Meyer just because he was the coach at Ohio State. I’m always saying ‘I can’t stand Ohio State,'” Flair joked. “I can remember Woody Hayes hitting that player from Clemson years ago. I do like Urban Meyer, he is a nice guy.”"
Thompson hosts many regular wrestling podcasts with many names such as Eric Bischoff, Arn Anderson, Jeff Jarrett, Jim Ross, Bruce Prichard and Tony Schiavone.
Trevor Lawrence has big expectations to meet in Jacksonville and there’s no doubt about it
Lawrence has already set record-breaking numbers for merchandise sales and there’s no doubt that the fans in Jacksonville are expecting big things from him right away as the franchise looks to be rebuilt and become legitimately competitive for the first time in quite a while.
Lawrence is being noticed by the biggest stars in industries all across the globe and that can be seen even in this little quote from Flair.
Even though he might not have kept up Lawrence all that much in college, Flair knows exactly who the quarterback is and recognizes the hype that surrounds him as he heads into the NFL.
It’s going to be interesting to see what Lawrence is able to do in this rookie season.
