Clemson football fans were a bit on the ‘uneasy side’ Sunday night and into Monday morning when rumors began swirling at star WR Justyn Ross.

Ross, who is working to gain clearance to be able to play football again final spinal surgery earlier last year, was rumored to be transferring from Clemson and both Auburn and Alabama fans had already jumped on board and began to picture what their respective wide receiver rooms would look like with Ross in the fold.

The rumor started with an Auburn fan board and it spread like wildfire through Twitter and on Instagram. Without any basis for truth, fans were spreading the rumor as facts and Clemson football fans were beginning to question what was going on in the program.

That all happened within a few hours.

By late-morning, Clemson football released a statement to media members on behalf of Ross saying that he ‘had no idea’ where the rumors were coming from and Ross addressed the situation on Twitter, as well.

Funny thing is, Clemson football coach Dabo Swinney was the last to hear about these transfer rumors

Swinney made an appearance on WCCP-FM Tuesday afternoon and was asked about the Ross rumors that took the internet by storm.

As we all know, Swinney doesn’t have social media accounts. He said that he was actually busy with prep-work for the All In Ball and ACC coaches’ meetings so he spent much of the day Monday in his office working.

"“So, I just kind of closed the door and locked myself in here yesterday [Monday], and I walked out at like 5:15,” Swinney said on WCCP. “And I walked down the hall and just kind of was in there talking to Grisham and (CJ) Spiller and Tony (Elliott) for a minute. I don’t even know how it came up. Next thing I know, Grisham is like, ‘Man, it’s crazy what’s going on with Justyn.’ And I’m like, ‘What’s going on with Justyn?’ So, I just kind of missed it all. He said, ‘Well, apparently somebody started (rumors).’ I’m like, ’What?’”“I have no idea what planet that came from. So, yeah, I’m just glad he’s still here. So, I guess that’s all good. But, craziness.”"

It’s amazing to think that while many Tiger fans were beginning to freak out a little, Swinney was in his office working without an inkling of knowledge as to what was going on. Why? Well, because the rumor was made up with no truth to it.

Swinney did give an update on Ross and his medical situation, as well. The Tiger coach said that Ross will go back to his Doctor in Pittsburgh in June and that’s “the final big moment” that everyone is hoping he will gain medical clearance.

"“He’s doing great. He had an awesome spring. He looks amazing,” Swinney said. “You would never think in a million years there is something wrong with him if you watched him run and jump and cut and all the stuff he can do. His body is in a great spot.”"

We’re wishing nothing but the best for Ross when goes for his appointment in June. There’s no doubt he has worked hard to get back to the point where he is currently because he wants to continue his football career.
