Clemson football fans were taken back a little bit Monday morning when they logged on to their social media accounts to see that there were rumors surrounding WR Justyn Ross transferring.

Auburn and Alabama fans jumped all over the rumor and many Tweets throughout the morning had already assumed Ross was in the NCAA Transfer Portal and that it was a foregone conclusion that the talented wide receiver was coming back to his home state.

Unfortunately for them, the rumors seem to be completely fabricated.

A Clemson spokesperson told media members that Ross “had no clue” where the rumors came from and Ross himself jumped on Twitter to post this statement: “Slow day I see, I’m not transferring.”

Clemson football fans- and many others- trolled the sites and those who pushed the rumor as truth after hearing from Ross

Morgan Thomas reported that the source of the Justyn Ross transfer rumors came from the Auburn fan Discord Channel. Talk about a legitimate source.

Interestingly enough, Recruitology- which has a little over 2,000 followers on Twitter and nearly 100,000 on Instagram- was one of the first ‘publications’ to post about the Ross rumors.

The account has yet to Tweet anything with clarification, but did post on Instagram.

It’s interesting, in my opinion, when you look at the caption from the account. It almost acts as if these were legitimate rumors or came from a real source instead of complete fabrications. The only speculation that happened, though, was through fans on social media.

In the end, this will go down as one of those interesting stories.

It’s not often that you see a rumor just come out of thin air. Typically, there’s at least a kernel of truth to it, but this one seems as if it was just a fan or someone trolling and two fan bases absolutely jumped in head first without even thinking about what might be truthful.
