Clemson football fans began to have an uneasy feeling when rumors emerged Sunday night and through Monday morning that star WR Justyn Ross might be considering entering the NCAA Transfer Portal.

The rumor all started with an unverified Twitter account named ‘Recruitology,’ which has a little more than 2,000 followers.

The account said that there was a lot of speculation happening that Ross may jump into the portal and that Alabama and Auburn could be viable landing spots for him.

Of course, seeing this news and the corresponding tweets that followed from accounts all over social media, fans from all across the southeast chimed in on the discussion.

Nothing from any verified Clemson football sources has been said on the matter, making this even more murky

There is nothing to indicate from Clemson sources thus far that there is any truth to the rumor.

Of course Alabama and Auburn fans are going to jump at the potential ‘opportunity’ that their team could land one of the top wide receivers in the nation, but what sense would it make for Ross to transfer at this point?

Unless he just wants to be closer to home or there is something going on behind the scenes- like academics- why would he make a move to play for Auburn, a program that won’t even sniff competing for a CFB Playoff?

The rumor started on an Auburn board is that ‘Clemson didn’t clear him.’ That doesn’t make any sense. Clemson doesn’t get to ‘clear’ Ross one way or another. That is determined by the doctor he is seeing up in Pittsburgh. So, that’s yet another reason why we’re more than skeptical of this rumor.

He has gone through the rehab and is in position to play this season if everything goes well in the process over the next few months. He is going to be one of the top receivers on this Tiger team and one of the best in the country. All the returns we’ve heard from Ross have been nothing but positive and we just have no reason to believe this rumor is true at this point.

While anything is possible in this era of College Football free-agency- and things can change in a hurry- this seems more like social media gossip than it does anything factual.

UPDATE: Justyn Ross through a Clemson spokesperson said he has no idea where this transfer rumor came from and that it’s not true. We’re glad he went ahead and put it to bed.

Next. Clemson needs to take OL recruiting to the next level. dark
