Clemson football fans were ecstatic to see Trevor Lawrence be the first name called by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell Thursday night – he is the first Tiger to ever be chosen first in the NFL Draft.

It made it even sweeter when a couple of hours later the Jacksonville Jaguars pulled off a trade to jump back into the first round and take Clemson football running back Travis Etienne.

If you are looking for a way to build support for your franchise, drafting two of the most decorated players in a college program’s history is a great way to do it. Jacksonville is going to sell exponentially more merchandise now than it would have this time yesterday.

Clemson football fans were elated by the team that drafted both Trevor and Travis

Tiger fans around the country could not wait to voice their opinions on social media last night during the draft. Many shared their favorite on-the-field moments, tears, and memories of meeting the two over the last several years.

As we wrote earlier, Jacksonville is certainly going to be inundated with Clemson football fans over the next several years as the two of them become stars in one of the NFL’s smallest markets.

Not all Jacksonville Jaguars fans were happy with the Travis Etienne selection

As we know, not all sports fans like the decisions that their teams make and they never will – there are some that just enjoy being miserable and nothing will ever change that.

However, while Clemson football fans across the country were elated to see Trevor and Travis end up together in Jacksonville, not all Jaguars fans were.

Many took to Twitter to voice their displeasure in the fact that the franchise traded assets to obtain another first-round pick and then used it to select a running back given all the other issues that plague the roster.

If we are being completely honest, Jacksonville needed Trevor, they did not need Travis. They have a very good young running back and a very good overall running back group. Sure, Etienne makes it that much better, but his selection takes away from other needs being filled, so it makes sense as to why some fans were unhappy.

All in all, it was a great night for the Clemson football family and several years from now Jaguar fans will look back and be thankful to have two elite and outstanding young men representing them on and off the field.
