The Clemson football program has been one of the top competitors in the nation over the past half-decade and the Tigers aren’t looking to give up that prestige any time soon.

One of the most intriguing sports news items came out just a few days ago that “at least 12” of Europe’s most prestigious soccer clubs have agreed to form their own league, something many are deeming as a ‘Super League.’

With that kind of news, it can only make sense that analysts would dream of what would happen if some of the top programs in College Football elected to break away from the NCAA completely and start their own league.

The NCAA already has very little control in the FBS level of College Football and it honestly seems likely just a matter of time before the groups form their own association and move away from the NCAA’s policies and two-faced decisions.

The Athletic’s Andy Staples wrote an article detailing who the 15 founders for a College Football Super League would be and shared on Twitter that list of teams.

According to Staples, the powers that have the most influence are:

  • Alabama
  • Auburn
  • Clemson
  • Florida
  • Georgia
  • LSU
  • Michigan
  • Nebraska
  • Notre Dame
  • Ohio State
  • Oklahoma
  • Oregon
  • Penn State
  • Texas
  • USC

While on the surface it seems like a crazy, farfetched idea that would never work, the truth is that this would present quite the schedule for fans to watch each year.

You’d be talking about seeing marquee matchups of the best kind week after week. Well, with the exception of whoever gets Nebraska and Michigan. You could make the same argument about Texas, USC and Penn State, as well.

That being said, it’s still something fun to think about.

Clemson vs. Alabama one week. Clemson vs. Oregon the next week.

The fanfare for these games would be absolutely unheard of and it make for intriguing matchups week-in and week-out.
