Hunter Johnson

Quarterback Hunter Johnson gets lost in the shuffle when it comes to the elite quarterbacks that Clemson football has signed over the last decade.

Everyone talks about Tahj Boyd, Deshaun Watson, Trevor Lawrence, and DJ Uiagalelei but Hunter Johnson is right there with all of them. Hunter is the 25th highest-rated Clemson football signee ever. He was rated higher than both Watson and Boyd coming out of high school.

Unfortunately for Johnson, he stuck in the season between Deshaun Watson and Trevor Lawrence where Dabo Swinney decided to reward Kelly Bryant with playing time instead of allowing the three quarterbacks on the roster to actually battle for the starting job.

Johnson ended up transferring to Northwestern where his career has never taken off as many expected it to.

Michael Barthelemy of Inside NU had this to say earlier this year about Hunter Johnson –

"Johnson was seen as a surefire prospect coming out of high school, so his immense struggles are not a result of simply not having the tools for the collegiate level. His poor decision-making and inaccuracy ultimately led to his fall-off, but there is still a glimmer of hope."
