Airese Currie

Airese Currie was the first big-time recruit for former head coach Tommy Bowden. He committed to Clemson football on signing day in 2001 as he signed his National Letter of Intent.

Currie was exciting to watch for those of us that had the chance. There are two games of his that stand out the most and both were his senior year at Clemson.

The Tigers opened up at home in 2004 against Wake Forest and Currie connected with quarterback Charlie Whitehurst nine times for 152 yards and one touchdown. The other game was on November 6th when the Tigers beat the 11th ranked Miami Hurricanes 24-17 in overtime.

Currie hauled in seven catches for 128 yards in Miami that night.

At the time, Currie was the 40th best player in the nation, he was the second-best receiver coming out of high school and was the second-best player in the state of South Carolina – the only player rated higher in the 2001 class from South Carolina – Roscoe Crosby who also signed with the Tigers.

In his Clemson football career, Airese appeared in 45 games for the Tigers and accumulated 2,025 receiving yards and just 14 touchdowns.
