Clemson football: 5-star QB Arch Manning doesn’t mention Tigers in leader group
The Clemson football program got its quarterback commitment for the 2022 class in 4-star Cade Klubnik and that means the Tigers are already looking ahead to what prospects they’ll be targeting most in the 2023 class.
The 2023 class, according to many recruiting insiders, could be one of the best groups of high school quarterbacks we’ve ever seen in a single cycle and the group is going to be headlined by 5-star Arch Manning, Malachi Nelson and Dante Moore.
Manning, the nephew of former NFL star QB Peyton Manning and Eli Manning, has been the most-highlighted high school recruit since Trevor Lawrence and many Clemson football fans are hoping to land the New Orleans, LA prospect.
5-star QB Arch Manning didn’t mention Clemson football in his leader group
In his latest interview, Manning revealed the coaches he has had the most contact with and Clemson’s name wasn’t mentioned.
"“I’ve been talking with a bunch of coaches,” he said via The Spun. “Coach (Steve) Sark(isian) at Texas, Coach (Jake) Peetz and Coach (Ed) O(rgeron) at LSU and I’ve gotten the opportunity to talk with Coach (Nick) Saban too. Really all those guys are good at what they do and they’re great to talk to and it’s just been great to get the relationships and bonds already.“I just really love building a relationship. Really getting to know all of the coaches is important to me.”"
While in previous interviews Manning has mentioned Clemson as one of the schools he has interest in, it should at least be of note that he didn’t mention the Tigers here. When you’re mentioning coaches like Steve Sarkisian, Nick Saban and Ed Orgeron, but not mentioning Clemson it’s at least something that needs to be noted.
Manning also revealed that he is planning to take an unofficial visit to Texas later this June.
While this is something to note, the truth is that his recruitment is just now starting to heat up. Manning is going to take all of his visits and he’s going to carefully weigh all of his options before he makes a decision.
The biggest takeaway from this interview, though, is the heavy-hitters that the Tigers will have to battle with and, in some ways, come-from-behind to beat if they want to win his recruitment.
Texas, Alabama and LSU are all going to be major players with others factoring in, as well, like Texas A&M and Notre Dame.
