Trevor Lawrence will celebrate the biggest day of his football career in Clemson.
If there was any doubt that Trevor Lawrence was not going to be the first overall draft pick in the upcoming 2021 NFL Draft, that was put to rest last week when Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer took his family on a beach vacation instead of attending BYU’s pro-day.
As we inch closer to the draft, selected players that are deemed absolute first-round draft picks are going to have to decide where they will celebrate their achievement. Those that are vaccinated according to the CDC guidelines, can attend the NFL Draft this year which will be held in Cleveland.
According to NFL.com “A select number of prospects will take the stage in Cleveland while fans, media, NFL Network, ESPN and ABC crews will also be on-site as the league welcomes the new rookie class. Building on the success of last year’s virtual Draft, additional prospects will also participate in Draft festivities remotely from their homes around the country.”
According to Adam Schefter, Trevor Lawrence will be among those celebrating remotely.
"Presumptive No. 1 pick Trevor Lawrence is declining the chance to attend the draft in Cleveland and is instead choosing to watch it at Clemson with a few family members and friends, per sources. Despite NFL’s invite, Lawrence never wavered in his desire to watch the draft at Clemson."
Trevor Lawrence will be the fifth top overall pick since 2015 to opt-out of attending the draft.
Jameis Winston, Baker Mayfield, Myles Garrett, and Joe Burrow all celebrated their milestone at home – because of COVID, Burrow didn’t have a choice.
This should tell you just how much both his family and Clemson mean to Trevor Lawrence. While there won’t be a pizza party for him, he will have an opportunity to share this day with friends, family, and former teammates.
The NFL Draft will begin at 8:00 pm on Thursday, April 29th and there is a chance that running back Travis Etienne could join Trevor in the first round of the draft.
