Breaking down scholarship numbers 2022 Clemson football recruiting class

The Clemson football coaching staff is beginning to zero-in on targets for this upcoming 2022 recruiting cycle.

As we head into the spring and get into the summer when visits can likely be taken again, we should expect the Tiger recruiting to heat up and for certain prospects to begin to trends towards Clemson.

What will the scholarship number look like for this class? Here’s our projections for the numbers by position. *Please note that these are estimations*

  • QB: 1 (1 committed)
  • RB: 1
  • WR: 2-3 (1  committed)
  • TE: 1
  • OL: 3-4 (2 committed)
  • DE: 2
  • DT: 2
  • LB: 1-2
  • CB: 2-3
  • S: 1
  • K: 1

The Clemson football coaching staff will have to be careful with scholarship numbers

There’s no doubt this staff is going to have to be careful with scholarship numbers simply because of the rules that came with the pandemic in the past.

At this point, the Tigers are done recruiting the quarterback position and they’ll move to other priorities on the offensive side of the ball. Clemson will take a running back and at least one more wide receiver- with the potential for two more before it’s all said and done.

Clemson has the luxury of being patient with offensive line recruiting. The Tigers already have two 4-star commitments there and they’ll be looking to fill that last spot or two with players they know they can count on.

Defensively, the Tigers have some work to do.

Clemson has yet to pick up a commitment from a defensive prospect- though that could soon change– but the Tigers are developing their board a little slower this year simply because prospects haven’t had the opportunity to take visits.

Because of the departures of LeAnthony Williams (transfer) and Derion Kendrick (dismissed), the Tigers are a bit low at the cornerback position this year. There’s a chance that they’ll lose at least one more at the position following this season, which is why we’ll see them take at least two cornerbacks with the capacity to end up with three.

In addition, we should expect Clemson to take a kicker with B.T. Potter’s career coming to a close soon.

In the end, we should expect this 2022 Clemson football recruiting class to have somewhere in the realm of 17-20 commits when it’s all said and done, but it will likely be less than 20.
