Deshaun Watson has earned the right to be innocent until proven guilty.
Over the last couple of days, social media has been buzzing with allegations that former Clemson football great Deshaun Watson has committed sexual assault of as many as six masseuses.
Deshaun made a statement on Twitter that read –
While many people live very different public and private lives, this seems very out of character for Deshaun Watson given what we know about him and have seen from him over the last decade. He has always been the first one to give to others and leads the charge when it comes to changing communities – whether you are talking about Houston or his hometown of Gainesville, GA.
Yes, there are many times over the last 20 years when our sports heroes have broken our hearts and committed heinous acts on people that trusted them, but we have also seen many times where our sports heroes have been falsely accused and had their name drug through the mud in a money grab.
While it is too soon to know which way these allegations will fall, what is clear is that Deshaun Watson is innocent until proven guilty. While he has not been charged with a crime, these are serious allegations that will be adjudicated in a court of civil law and we should all support Deshaun during a time when he really needs people on his side.
As we have already seen, the lawyer for the plaintiffs is going to try these allegations on social media and in the court of public opinion as he released a statement via social media before Deshaun was ever notified in person.
That means there are going to be lots of things said over the coming months and as part of the Clemson family, it is our duty to support Deshaun until he has had his day in court and they decide whether or not he is guilty of these allegations in what is currently civil matters not legal.
Deshaun Watson is innocent until proven liable in civil court and as a young man that has brought joy to all of our lives, we should try to do the same for him during what is going to be one of the toughest times in his life.
