Three top landing destinations for former Clemson football CB Derion Kendrick

Following his dismissal from the Clemson football program, CB Derion Kendrick has officially placed his name in the NCAA Transfer Portal.

Kendrick chose to return to Clemson for one final year this past winter after receiving a less-than-favorable NFL Draft grade, but there was an understanding between him and Dabo Swinney that he’d be walking a fine line.

Unfortunately, Swinney decided to move on from Kendrick after another issue presented itself this spring and he had this to say to the media:

"“There is really not much to say about that except that he is not with us anymore,” Swinney said via Clemson Sports Illustrated. “But also I want to say that I love DK. He is a young man that I have always loved as a football player. He has a good heart. He has a really good heart. He has never been a disrespectful young man or anything like that, just sometimes there just needs to be a change. “Just so thankful to have the opportunity to help him and hopefully make a difference for him. These past three years, I am so thankful for all his contributions to our team and this program. I will be pulling for him wherever his next stop is and will always be for him.”"

Kendrick missed several games during the 2020 season due to disciplinary reasons and Swinney described him as being in the ‘love shack’ when asked about the situation last fall.

As Kendrick moves on and begins to go through the portal process, here are the three top landing destinations for the former Clemson football cornerback.

LSU Tigers

Kendrick hasn’t released anything yet on top schools or interests, but one has to believe the LSU Tigers will be one of the first to come calling and it’d make a decent amount of sense from a program fit, as well.

LSU has lost quite a bit to the transfer portal this offseason and the Tigers are looking to build their program back up, and one way will be through the portal.

LSU already got a quality transfer from Clemson football in LB Mike Jones Jr. and Kendrick might choose to follow in his footsteps out on the Bayou. The two have known each other for quite a while and that relationship (along with LSU’s major needs) might be enough to get Kendrick out in Louisiana for what will likely be a one-season situation.
