Three FCS teams that Clemson football fans should totally pull for this spring

We won’t get to see the Clemson football program play another competitive game for several more months, but that doesn’t mean we don’t have football to watch.

Because of the canceled fall season, the FCS level of football is now playing its season here in the spring. Things got underway a couple of weeks ago and they’re continuing to heat up as the teams play a shortened regular season followed by the playoffs.

Clemson football fans may have had a vested interest in the Jacksonville State Gamecocks before, but with former Tiger QB Zerrick Cooper out with an injury, the interest may be fading.

Here’s a look at three FCS programs who Clemson football fans can get behind this spring.

The Citadel

The Citadel was the lone FCS program on the 2020 Clemson football schedule.

FCS teams were allowed to schedule up to four games in the fall, according to NCAA rules, and The Citadel used one of its four to claim a payday by traveling up to Death Valley to take on the Tigers in a game that ultimately resulted in a 49-0 victory for Clemson.

Now, The Citadel will play its own schedule, opening up this coming weekend.

The Bulldogs will travel to Mercer this Saturday in a game that will be televised on ESPN+. It should be fun to watch the former opponent play and see how they fare in FCS action.
