If Trevor Lawrence isn’t your top QB, you’re probably the Chicago Bears
If you’re an NFL team that doesn’t consider Trevor Lawrence to be the top quarterback on your draft board, you’re probably the Chicago Bears.
A report from Eric Galko, President of Optimum Scouting, earlier this week indicated that multiple NFL teams don’t have Trevor Lawrence as the top quarterback on their draft board. Instead, Galko indicated, it’s BYU’s Zach Wilson.
Wilson, who has drawn comparisons to Patrick Mahomes, certainly has an opportunity for a bright future at the next level, but let’s be honest here: No professional scout in their right mind would select him over a once-in-a-generation prospect like Trevor Lawrence.
That is, unless you’re the Chicago Bears.
We won’t forget when the Bears passed on Deshaun Watson and, perhaps, they haven’t learned their lesson with Trevor Lawrence either
Back in the 2017 NFL Draft, there were several draft analysts- including Mel Kiper- who had UNC’s Mitchell Trubisky ahead of Deshaun Watson and Patrick Mahomes on their draft boards.
Unfortunately for the Bears, they must’ve listened to the pundits instead of opening their eyes and actually watching the film. The Bears traded up to select Trubisky and it turned out to be one of the worst decisions in the recent history of the NFL.
The Bears are already back in the market for a quarterback and there is a thought that they’ll take one in the first-round of this spring’s upcoming draft. Well, if they don’t trade for one first.
If there are truly NFL organizations who have any quarterback ahead of Lawrence in this draft, then they’re simply the next Chicago Bears.
The fact still remains: It’s easy for franchises to say that Lawrence ‘isn’t their top guy’ when they know he’s not going to them. Everyone knows that Lawrence is being taken No. 1 overall by the Jacksonville Jaguars, and nothing is going to change that.
