Urban Meyer got a front-row seat to the greatness of Trevor Lawrence
It’s easy to identify the greatness of Trevor Lawrence, but you can’t help but be blown away when you get to see it up-close and personal.
That’s exactly what happened for Urban Meyer Friday morning when the former Clemson QB put on a workout showcase at the Poe Indoor Practice Facility in front of more than half the league’s scouts.
But none of those scouts were front-and-center for Trevor Lawrence’s throwing extravaganza. It was Jaguars coach Urban Meyer who was standing about four yards in front of center the entire time, chatting with Clemson coach Dabo Swinney.
Meyer was noted multiple times on the broadcast and it was even revealed that Meyer had asked Trevor Lawrence if he would be willing to move up his Pro Day and throw before having the surgery.
Lawrence, of course, complied.
When asked about why he decided to throw, Lawrence maintained his humble demeanor.
"“Just to show I’m no different than anybody else. I still want to do the process the right way,” Lawrence said."
The Clemson quarterback met with the ACC Network following the Pro Day and he talked about the workout and his road to recovery. Lawrence said he’ll likely be fully cleared in 4-5 months, but can begin throwing in 6-8 weeks following the surgery.
While he maintained a professional interview, one question stood out more than anything else.
ESPN’s Rece Davis asked Trevor Lawrence if had seen Urban Meyer during his workout. A smile lit up Lawrence’s face and he paused for just a second.
Then he delivered this professional-level response:
"“I saw him. Just waved to him real quick, you can’t really communicate out here,” Lawrence said with a big grin on his face. “I saw a lot teams out here and it was really cool to see everybody come out.”"
Lawrence, like the true professional he is, wasn’t about to tip to his hand.
Though we saw a smile, he was quick in his answer to turn it back to all the scouts and coaches who were in attendance, even though we all know well that Meyer is going to be his next coach.
Meyer had the ‘front-row’ Trevor Lawrence experience Friday morning and how a coach can’t come away impressed from that would be beyond us.
Lawrence got to see his former coach and his future coach on the field at the same time watching him throw and it should be pretty easy to see why he’ll be the No. 1 pick in the draft just a couple of months from now.
