Clemson football will have heavy competition on the offensive line this spring
The Clemson football team is going to see some intense competition this spring along the offensive line as they try to fix woes from last year.
The offensive line during the 2020 season left much to be desired as the Tigers were pushed around far too often and found themselves on the losing side of the battle in the trenches. Clemson was unable to get much of any push in the running game all season long and the offensive line just never seemed to ‘mesh’ as many Clemson football fans were hoping it would.
Now, the Tigers will have to replace two starters– OC Cade Stewart and LT Jackson Carman- and will return three- RT Jordan McFadden, OG Will Putnam and OG Matt Bockhorst.
The truth is that we’re going to see some major competition beginning this spring for the unit.
Clemson football has to find its new starters and the returning starters aren’t guaranteed anything, either
The overarching opinion is that Walker Parks will take over as the starting left tackle and that we may could see a guy like Mason Trotter step in as the new center. That being said, there is no guarantee with anything.
Clemson has talent- especially with guys like Paul Tchio & Bryn Tucker- who will be competitive and who’s to say that incoming freshmen like Ryan Linthicum, Dietrick Pennington or Tristan Leigh can’t make an impact?
You’ve got 13 returning scholarship players- along with the four incomers- and that’s going to create a competitive atmosphere that will all begin this spring.
Of course, it should be noted that Leigh- the 5-star OT- won’t be here until the fall.
Still, there’s legitimate reason to believe that these young guys can compete and it’s going to be interesting to see how the depth chart shakes out.
We’ll have plenty of analysis as we progress through the offseason, but the one thing Clemson football fans need to know for now is that there’s going to be major competition and it all starts with spring practice.
