Brett Favre doesn’t believe Trevor Lawrence should be No. 1 overall pick

The Clemson football program might have two of the hottest names in the nation as former quarterbacks, but legendary QB Brett Favre apparently is enamored.

Favre, who was named to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2016, has had a couple of comments about two former Clemson football quarterbacks that may leave Tiger fans scratching their heads.

First, Favre was asked about advice he would give Deshaun Watson and the situation brewing in Houston. Favre made sure to say that football players make a ton of money and that he is ‘old school’ when it comes to players having a voice in decision-making within their organization.

"“You get paid a ton of money to do a certain job, and just do it, and let the chips fall where they may,” Favre said on a interview with Minty Bets of Yahoo Sports. “I think we make too much money to voice an opinion, but I’m not saying he’s wrong. Again I think it’s a different day and time, and it’ll be interesting to see how the organization handles it.”"

In addition to his comments about Watson, Clemson football fans won’t like hearing what he had to say about Trevor Lawrence and the No. 1 overall pick

In an interview with TMZ, Favre said that he doesn’t believe quarterback is the Jaguars’ top need and that he thinks they should pass on Trevor Lawrence.

"“I would take (Alabama receiver) DeVonta Smith,” he said. “The last two games I’ve watched this guy play, I mean, I’m blown away with how good — knowing that teams know that he’s going to get the ball — and he dominates. I think you go with a guy like that. “Nothing against Trevor Lawrence, but I think you can find a free agent guy, or a guy in the latter rounds or a mid-rounds in the draft,” he said. “But you just don’t find a guy like a … (Smith) could be a Jerry Rice. He could be — different — but a Randy Moss. A total game-changer. But again, a different style of player. Just an incredible player.”"

There’s no doubt that Smith can be a game-changing wide receiver, but Lawrence could also be the next Hall of Fame quarterback. In today’s game, you’re not relevant if you don’t have a quarterback.

That’s why quarterbacks are at a premium every single free-agency and draft period. That’s why teams are trying to make trades for Deshaun Watson and apparently Favre just doesn’t get it.

You can’t just ‘find a quarterback in the latter rounds or in free-agency.’ You can, however, find starter-caliber wide receivers.

We’re not sure what Favre is thinking now a days, but it’s apparent he isn’t enamored with Clemson football quarterbacks.
