Gamecock fans still waiting for that Clemson football dynasty to crack

Can you imagine the bitterness, anguish and absolute embarrassment Clemson football fans would feel if they were in their in-state rival’s shoes?

Well, South Carolina Gamecock fans feel that every time they think about College Football.

Sure, they try to mask up those feelings by focusing on brighter points, as in how Ohio State beat Clemson and how Alabama (an SEC team) won the National Championship.

After all, when you can’t win for yourself, you have to ride the coattails of a conference.

Now, after an embarrassing loss in the CFB Playoff and more question marks surrounding the program, many South Carolina fans are beginning to think their time is coming.

They’re patiently watching and hoping to see the demise of Clemson football

Just a quick Twitter search or a listen on Gamecocks’ sports radio will allow you to find hundreds of South Carolina fans who are dead-set on the idea that Clemson’s time in the national spotlight has passed.

Of course, that sentiment has been around for quite some time.

Remember? When Deshaun Watson left, that was the end for Clemson. Well, now it’s Trevor Lawrence leaving- coupled with two bad losses in the CFB Playoff- and the potential that Tony Elliott might leave.

While it’s a different set of circumstances, the story is still the same.

The truth of the matter is this: Dabo Swinney has already proven he is willing to evolve (which should scare the rest of the nation), he is recruiting at a level higher than we were even seeing during the two National Championship runs and he has a quarterback coming in to take over who might turn out to be better than Trevor Lawrence or Deshaun Watson when it’s all said and done.

While Gamecock fans (as well as others) are ready for the Tigers to go away, the truth is that Clemson football isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
