Clemson football players returning with one simple goal in mind
The loss to the Ohio State Buckeyes in the CFB Playoff semifinals clearly didn’t set well with many Clemson football players, including Nolan Turner.
Turner, who has already been in the Clemson football program for five years, joined several other Tigers on the defensive side of the ball who announced they would be coming back for another season.
Both Turner and LB James Skalski are using the NCAA waiver that allows seniors to return and use an extra year of eligibility, meaning they will play their sixth season with the Tigers this coming fall.
As we hear about Turner returning and the rest of his teammates, as well, it’s clear that they are returning with one goal in mind: To win a National Championship.
Clemson football got better with Nolan Turner returning
Nolan Turner was the brains of the backend of that defense during the 2020 season. When he was off the field, there was an apparent drop-off. That was true in the game against Ohio State when he had to sit out the first half due to targeting against Notre Dame in the ACC Championship.
With Turner returning, he will be able to help aid the developments of those young and talented safeties like Lannden Zanders and Joseph Charleston. True-freshman Andrew Mukuba will also benefit from being around Turner for a year.
In addition to the leadership and football IQ that Turner brings to the defensive backfield, he’s also a guy who has continued to improve. He has clearly developed over the past five years and he’ll continue to get better with another year of coaching and training.
The outcome of the 2021 season certainly won’t be known for a while, but it’s clear that this group is going to be a focused and motivated bunch heading into the year.
