Shane Beamer is already having issues in Columbia.

South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer may be a good guy and may be a good friend of Clemson football head coach Dabo Swinney but less than a month on the job, he is already finding it is hard to keep coaches in Columbia.

If you have not heard yet, Beamer’s first offensive coordinator, Mike Bobo, and first offensive line coach, Will Friend, have already jumped ship and are heading to Auburn. Like most sane people, when you give someone an opportunity to leave Columbia both Bobo and Friend have taken it and are heading to “Clemson without a lake”.

South Carolina fans are convinced that Beamer is the man to take them all the way back to their glory days – you remember those years, 2011-2013 when they won more than 10 games for three straight years before coming back to earth as the worst program in Power 5 football.

Over their last two coaching searches, there is a reason that South Carolina has had to go with their bottom of the list choice and it is sure isn’t because college football coaches think the world of the upside-down cockroach known as Williams-Bryce Stadium or because of their all-time 9-14 record in bowl games.

Nothing will change at South Carolina under Beamer.

New head coach Shane Beamer is getting a quick taste of what life will be like as the head coach of South Carolina – last pickings when it comes to recruits and coaches.

Beamer is allegedly on the prowl around the SEC trying to poach coaches from other staffs but if he has not already learned, trying to get legit assistants to Columbia will be a tough sell and he more than likely will have to go after young guys at Group 5 schools or FCS schools to fill out his staff.

That may not be a bad thing as there are some talented young guys but that also means, they will jump ship at the first chance that they get just like Bobo and Friend did. With National Signing Day less than a month away, losing coaches that have been in Columbia for the last year is a tough thing for a new coach.

Hopefully, he gets used to it because this won’t be the last time it happens.
