Clemson football and Ohio State clearly do not like each other.

We are just 24 hours after the announcement that Clemson football will face off against Ohio State in the College Football Playoff semifinal for the third time and the two head coaches are already providing bulletin board material for the other.

This could be the sexiest game in the seven years of the College Football Playoff and should be better than last year’s epic matchup between the two. The storylines are never-ending and the smack talk is going to ramp up the closer we get.

The two head coaches got a jump on the smack talk over the weekend.

Immediately after beating Northwestern in the Big 10 title game, Ohio State head coach Ryan Day launched into a tirade that the Buckeyes were going to the “kick the ass” of either Clemson, Alabama, or Ohio State. (Caution: language)

It is odd that he was already thinking about those three teams – though he must realize that he had just two weeks to try and get his team psyched up enough to go play with the big boys in college football.

While Clemson football head coach Dabo Swinney is not one to talk a lot of smack about opponents in any capacity, he did say last week that he thought teams that had only played six-games did not belong in the College Football Playoff, and then he backed that up with his final Coaches Poll vote.

Dabo ranked Ohio State 11th in his final Coaches Poll – for the record, he did not have his own Tigers at number one and he clearly thinks very highly of the SEC as he had four SEC teams in his Top 6.

Here was Swinney’s Top 11:

  1. Alabama
  2. Clemson
  3. Notre Dame
  4. Texas A&M
  5. Florida
  6. Georgia
  7. Cincinnati
  8. Oklahoma
  9. Iowa State
  10. Coastal Carolina
  11. Ohio State

Each head coach has already provided enough bulletin board material for the other and we still have 10 days before kickoff. If the first 24 hours is any indication, get your popcorn ready because the next week and a half is going to be a lot of fun.

Next. A streak will be broken in New Orleans. dark
