Trevor Lawrence locked up the Heisman Trophy against Notre Dame
Trevor Lawrence is the best player in college football.
There isn’t a college football coach that would not trade their quarterback for Trevor Lawrence. The same cannot be said for any other player in college football. Kyle Trask, DeVonta Smith, Ian Book, and anyone else you want to put in the group is fine, but all of them are easily replaced.
Trevor Lawrence is a different story.
We get it, that isn’t the measuring stick for future Heisman winners but it is supposed to go to the best player in college football and that is exactly who and what Trevor Lawrence is.
Saturday night in Charlotte, with his team needing a win in order to win their sixth straight ACC championship, secure its sixth straight College Football Playoff bid and revenge its first regular season in several years – Lawrence came up with one of his best performances ever.
Against the Irish Saturday night in the ACC Championship game, Trevor Lawrence did whatever he wanted to against the Irish.
By the time he was replaced in the game by backup quarterback D.J. Uiagalelei, he had accumulated 412 total yards and three touchdowns. He did have one turnover early in the game but responded exactly like the best player in college football should.
The Heisman Trophy winner will not be announced until after the College Football Playoff semi-finals in early January.
Clemson fans obviously have a bad taste in their mouth given Deshaun Watson was screwed out of two of them in his career and don’t think much of the award any longer. However, it is the most prestigious college athletics award and something that Trevor Lawrence has said he grew up wanting to win.
There is no doubt that he will be a Heisman finalist for the first time in his career and there should be no doubt that he is the best player in college football and should hear his name called on January 5th.
