Clemson football OC Tony Elliott has been the subject of several coaching rumors

Clemson football offensive coordinator Tony Elliott was reportedly set to interview for the vacant Auburn coaching position this weekend, but it seems that’s not the case.

The Clemson Insider was the first to report Friday night that Elliott was scheduled to interview for the Auburn head coaching position this Sunday following the ACC Championship game.

Despite the reports from multiple outlets that Elliott was one of the top four candidates, alongside Auburn OC Steve Sarkisian, DC Kevin Steele and Louisiana coach Billy Napier, he told ESPN’s Marty Smith on Saturday morning that he has not been contacted about the head coaching job at Auburn.

"“Contrary to reports I saw (Friday), I have not been contacted about the head coaching job at Auburn and am not scheduled to interview for that position,” Elliott told ESPN’s Marty Smith. “While I typically wouldn’t address this in this manner, I felt it was important to set the record straight for the young men in our program. My focus currently remains 100% on our team & the opportunity we have to face a great Notre Dame team for the ACC Championship Saturday.”"

Clemson football fans still shouldn’t be surprised if Elliott ends up interviewing for the position, but he’s doing what is best for the team currently

It shouldn’t come as any surprise if Elliott ends up interviewing for the Auburn job, or any other job, at some point in the near future. But Elliott is doing exactly what he needs to do to keep the Clemson football program on par and ready to compete.

It’s not fair for players to have uncertainties and not know where their coach stands. Elliott is denying those rumors and it might very well be true that he is not interested in the job and won’t be interviewing, either.

That being said, it will be interesting to see what happens over the course of the next few weeks pertaining to Elliott.

There’s no doubt that the Clemson football program would love to keep Elliott for as long as possible, but there’s also no doubt that Auburn would be getting a good one if he did end up interviewing and getting offered the job.

Either way, Elliott has made it clear that his focus currently is on the ACC Championship and helping this Tiger team win its sixth-straight conference title.
