Clemson football will have a chance at college football history Saturday.
As if the 2020 ACC Championship game between Clemson football and Notre Dame isn’t big enough, the Tigers will do something never seen before in college football history.
Play Notre Dame for a conference title.
Because this is Clemson football’s sixth straight appearance in the ACC title game, many aren’t giving it a second thought. However, this is the most special one of all because of its significance. Notre Dame is one of the most iconic and successful college football programs of all time and because of who they are, they have never played in a conference or for a conference title, until now.
Think of all the memorable games, people, and places associated with Notre Dame Football – Knute Rockne, Joe Montana, Rudy, George Gipp, touchdown Jesus, and the list goes on and on. As great and iconic as all of those things are the Irish have never played for a conference title.
Not only will the Tigers be the only team to ever face off against the Irish for a conference title, should they come out victorious, but they will also more than likely be the only program to ever beat Notre Dame for a conference title as Notre Dame has made it clear, they have no desire to join a conference moving forward in football.
The TIgers have become used to making college football history.
Over the last 10 years and under the guidance of head coach Dabo Swinney, Clemson football has achieved a lot that no one expected.
Playing in five straight College Football Playoffs, playing for four of the last five college football national title games, winning two national titles, handing Urban Meyer and Nick Saban their worst losses of all-time, and becoming the first team in modern college football to go 15-0.
Clemson football is used to making history in big-time situations. Accomplishing historical achievements is what this program has become all about.
