Clemson Football: 2021 class proves ‘WRU’ more than just a cool catchphrase
Many began to wonder about Clemson football as ‘WRU’ following the past couple of seasons
There’s no doubt that over the last half decade that no program has been as good as Clemson football in recruiting and developing wide receivers.
The Tigers have had unreal amounts of depth at the wide receiver positions and seemingly have been in on tons of talented recruits year-in and year-out. That being said, some began to wonder about the future of ‘WRU’ pertaining to Clemson football over the past couple of season- in particular in 2020– when the Tigers simply haven’t had as much depth as what we saw in the past.
In 2019, there were still plenty of options but it just seemed like the position wasn’t ‘three-deep’ as it had been in the past. And then, of course, this season with injuries that led to Justyn Ross, Frank Ladson Jr. and Joseph Ngata missing much of the year, the Tigers have not had near the amount of depth as normal at the position.
Though it seemed to some as if ‘WRU’ was fading away, the 2021 Clemson football recruiting class proves it’s more than just a cool catchphrase
During the Early National Signing Day on Wednesday, the Tigers signed a total of three wide receivers who all were highly-touted coming out of high school.
4-star Beaux Collins, 4-star Dacari Collins and 4-star Troy Stellato all signed their National Letters of Intent Wednesday morning, officially cementing their spots on the Clemson football team beginning in 2021.
Some were worried about the depth and talent of the position moving forward, but now it has been replenished in just one recruiting class.
Next season, the Tigers will have Ladson Jr., Ngata, the three talented freshmen, Brannon Spector, E.J. Williams and Ajou Ajou all on the roster with 5-star playmaker Will Shipley also coming to town through this 2021 recruiting class.
The result? The Tigers are about to have as many reliable bodies at the wide receiver position as they have had in quite some time.
Look for development to continue at the position and look for the Tigers to come out proving just why they’ve been deemed ‘WRU’ for all these years beginning next season.
