Clemson football wasn’t given the opportunity to beat South Carolina and it shows

The Clemson football program wasn’t given the opportunity to beat South Carolina for a seventh-straight year this season and it really shows.

Now, let’s get it straight. It doesn’t show in Clemson football. The Tigers have suffered one loss this season on the road and are still competing in the ACC Championship with an opportunity to lock up a berth in the CFB Playoff.

And it doesn’t show in the way the Gamecocks have played during this season, mustering up a 2-8 overall record.

But it does show in Gamecock fans and their mannerisms towards Clemson football fans here in early December

South Carolina fans have been much more open about their hate for the Clemson football program and excitement for the future of Gamecock football following the hiring of Shane Beamer as head coach.

These fans are crowing loudly about the ‘culture’ that Beamer is going to bring to South Carolina and it’s a little amusing.

Gamecock fans are coming out of the woodwork again and it’s mostly because they didn’t have to suffer their annual beating. Instead, the SEC gave them a pass and allowed them an opportunity to be protected from the streak that was about to continue in a big way.

If the Gamecocks lose to Clemson a week or two ago, do you think they’re touting Georgia getting Nyland Green over the Tigers as they were on Twitter?

The answer is a hearty ‘no.’

Not getting to play that rivalry game this year means Clemson football fans will have to listen to trash talk from South Carolina fans living vicariously through Notre Dame, Ohio State and Alabama moving forward and then that will continue through the offseason until we’re able to get the two teams on the field again.

Anybody for a little spring matchup?
