How Virginia Tech pulls off the upset against Clemson football
The Clemson football team enters its final regular season game Saturday evening looking to clinch a spot in the ACC Championship with a win.
The Tigers will take on the Virginia Tech Hokies in Blacksburg this evening with everything on the line. A loss would knock Clemson football out of the CFB Playoff picture and, likely, out of the ACC Championship, as well.
With that being said, we should see a motivated and hungry Tiger team take the field looking to make a statement. But that’s not always how things work out.
We’ve spent plenty of time talking about how the Tigers might dominate this one, but here’s a look at how Virginia Tech pulls off the upset against Clemson football in monumental fashion.
Virginia Tech’s upset checklist against Clemson football
- Use Hendon Hooker‘s scrambling ability to your advantage.
- Hooker need to have the game of his life.
- VT has to create a major pass-rush and force negative-yardage plays
- Win the lines of scrimmage
- Win the turnover battle
If Virginia Tech is going to win this game, it’s going to be at the hands of Hendon Hooker, their starting quarterback.
The Hokies are one of the better rushing teams in the ACC, but we all know that’s not going to work well against Clemson- unless the establish the lines of scrimmage.
In the end, though, VT is going to need Hooker to play the game of his life. He has been known to put the ball in trouble and that can’t happen Saturday night. Instead, he’s going to have to rush for more than 150 yards and throw for at least 150, as well, for the Hokies to have a chance.
In addition, the biggest things for VT to win will be getting in the backfield and creating negative plays defensively- possibly sacking Trevor Lawrence a couple of times- and creating turnovers. If they can do all of that, they have a chance.
