Clemson football uniform has mythical powers
There are mythical powers in Clemson football uniform color combinations.
Sure, to the average Clemson football fan, that may seem farfetched or a labeled “clickbait”. However, I would argue that this is absolutely true.
During a typical year, this would be the “championship phase” of Clemson football and to fans, that means orange pants. It is silly that we all get excited about football game pants, but we do because we know what they mean under head coach Dabo Swinney.
Orange pants are only worn in championship games – Atlantic Division championship, ACC championship, state championship, bowl championship, and the national championship.
With a spot on the line for the ACC Championship game when the Tigers kickoff against Virginia Tech Saturday evening, the Tigers should be wearing orange pants even though this game isn’t technically a division championship-winning game.
A question was asked on Twitter Monday evening about the last time that Clemson lost while wearing their white away tops and orange bottoms, so I did a little bit of digging and found the answer.
Because Clemson has not lost a lot of games over the last decade, the watching of old highlight clips only took about 20 minutes to find the answer.
When you look good, you play good.
By the time that Clemson football kicks off Saturday, it will have been 3,675 days since the Tigers lost a game wearing their white away tops and orange bottoms.
The last Clemson football loss wearing that uniform combination was November 13, 2010, at Florida State. Long time Tiger fans will remember that was the night that FSU kicker Dustin Hopkins nailed a 55-yard field goal as time expired.
The only kick that Hopkins had in college that was longer came in 2012 against Duke when he nailed a 56-yard attempt against Duke.
There may be some that think uniforms have nothing to do with outcomes of games, but to quote Hall of Famer Deion Sanders –
“If you look good, you feel good. If you feel good, you play good. If you play good, they pay good.”
Don’t forget, this is the same uniform combination that Clemson football wore when they beat Alabama in both 2016 and 2018 for the National title. There must be something mythical about it.
