Clemson Football: It’s time for Championship Phase of 2020 season
It’s time for ‘Championship Phase’ of 2020 Clemson football season
The Clemson football team has officially entered the ‘Championship Phase’ of the 2020 season as we prepare for the Tigers’ matchup with the Virginia Tech Hokies.
For those new to lingo, you may be wondering: What is ‘Championship Phase?’
Dabo Swinney has made it clear that every single year, he wants to see his Clemson football program competing for championships. In a normal year, that would include winning the division, winning the state championship against South Carolina, winning the ACC Championship and winning the bowl game (or the CFB Playoff semifinals and finals).
‘Championship Phase’ is the mentality that this Clemson football program has lived by to turn up the notch just a few bars as we head into the month of November and- in 2020- December.
Whenever Clemson football has a chance to win a championship, we see the Tigers pull out the orange pants
Swinney has made the Clemson uniforms mean something because we only get to see the Tigers wear those orange pants a handful (at best) of times each season.
They get to wear them when looking to clinch the division (of course, there are no divisions this year) and when they’re playing in a championship game (as noted above).
Since there are no divisions in the ACC this year, Clemson football will actually have a chance to lock up its spot in the ACC Championship with a win over Virginia Tech this weekend- assuming the Tigers don’t schedule a makeup game for Dec. 12- and that should mean that we get to see the orange pants.
No matter what the uniform, though, there’s no doubt that this Tigers team is in full ‘Championship Phase.’
They know what’s at stake every time they take the field from here on out and we’re going to see a motivated and focused football team these next few weeks as they march towards another hopeful bid in the CFB Playoff.
