Clemson football ranked inside top-four of first 2020 CFB Playoff rankings

The Clemson football team received a message loud and clear from the CFB Playoff committee Tuesday evening when the first rankings were unveiled.

The first CFB Playoff rankings for the 2020 season were released Tuesday evening and the Clemson football team came in at No. 3 overall in the nation.

Here’s a look at the top-10 of the CFB Playoff rankings:

  1. Alabama
  2. Notre Dame
  3. Clemson
  4. Ohio State
  5. Texas A&M
  6. Florida
  7. Cincinnati
  8. Northwestern
  9. Georgia
  10. Miami

With the Tigers being ranked No. 3 in the land despite a loss, the CFB Playoff committee sent a clear message: Take care of business and you’re in.

Clemson football controls its own destiny down the stretch of the season

The Tigers are ranked No. 3 in the country- even with a loss- and CFB Playoff Committee Chair Gary Barta said the reason Clemson was ranked so high is because the Tigers have dominated everyone they’ve played and their only loss came without Trevor Lawrence and several defensive starters on the road against Notre Dame.

What does that really mean?

It means Clemson’s path is straight forward. If the Tigers win out and beat Notre Dame in the ACC Championship, they’re in.

The loss to the Fighting Irish is basically being treated almost like a mulligan by the CFB Playoff committee and that means the Tigers still have all of their goals ahead of them as we move forward.

Outside of Clemson, it was interesting to see Cincinnati ranked so highly (No. 7) and there’s absolutely no reason that Georgia should be in the top-10. Miami should be ahead of the Bulldogs, for certain, and there are several other teams that could deserve that honor.

Lastly, it was disappointing to see Coastal Carolina as an undefeated team ranked No. 20 in the nation behind the likes North Carolina, Texas and USC, just to name a few.

Next. FSU better hope the game doesn't get rescheduled. dark

The Clemson football team will be back in action this Saturday to take on the Pittsburgh Panthers on Senior Day.
