Clemson Football: Time to take revenge for those 1990s routes by Florida State
It’s time for Clemson football to exact revenge on Florida State for those merciless blowouts
Many Clemson football fans are almost taking a merciful stance on the state of the Florida State program, but that absolutely shouldn’t be the case knowing the history between the two teams.
The Clemson football program is riding high as one of the top teams in the nation for yet another year. The Tigers have won five-straight ACC Championships and have competed in five CFB Playoffs and won two National Titles in the last three years.
Florida State, on the other hand, just made a coaching change to Mike Norvell and things haven’t gotten any better. The Seminoles will enter this game with a 2-6 overall record and tied for last in the ACC currently.
While many Clemson football fans find the state of Florida State’s program laughable- and they should- there is almost a sense of ‘feeling sorry’ for the Seminoles that comes into play with some.
We all know Dabo Swinney won’t intentionally run up the score, but it’s certainly take for Clemson football to take revenge on Florida State
Florida State leads the overall series with Clemson with a record of 20-13 against the Tigers. During the 1990s, the Seminoles took advantage of some bad Tiger teams and absolutely bludgeoned them as a result.
Here’s a look at just a few of the outcomes:
- 1993: FSU won 57-0
- 1995: FSU won 45-26
- 1996: FSU won 34-3
- 1998: FSU won 48-0
- 2000: FSU won 54-7
And then who can forget the 2013 embarrassment that saw the Tigers lose 51-14 in Death Valley on national television?
Clemson went more than full decade without beating Florida State when the Seminoles first joined the ACC. The Tigers beat them in 1989- before they had technically been fully instated- and then wouldn’t beat them again until 2003 when they pulled off an improbable upset against the No. 3-ranked Seminoles.
This is the team you want to feel sorry for?
Florida State was an absolute headache to deal with. The program cost Clemson several ACC Championships upon its arrival in the conference and the Tigers have spent the better part of two decades attempting to catch up to the Seminoles.
Now, they finally have their chance to exact revenge. They finally have their chance to put up some big scores against a mediocre and depleted FSU team.
You can talk about how that doesn’t matter, but for the Clemson football fans who remember these blowouts, they’ll tell you there’s nothing sweeter than exacting a little revenge and quieting down the Seminole crowd- which can be ever so annoyingly loud when things are going right.
