The sky isn’t falling, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t any concerns for Clemson football

The 2020 Clemson football season has been a wild rollercoaster ride to say the least as we head into the final few weeks of the regular season (which will hopefully be played out with no hiccups).

The Tigers are currently 7-1 with their one loss coming against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish last week on the road without the help of Trevor Lawrence, James Skalski, Tyler Davis or Mike Jones Jr., who were all out with injuries.

There’s no doubt that Clemson football still controls its own destiny to the CFB Playoff and some Tiger fans are forgetting that. Others are only stuck on the positives despite some concerns heading down the stretch.

There’s a middle ground to take with Clemson football between ‘the sky is falling’ and ‘there is no reason to be concerned at all’

First, let’s start with the concerns.

The major concern is the offensive line, which hasn’t been able to get a push basically all year except against Georgia Tech, where almost everything seemingly went right for the Tigers.

The line has been putrid in run-blocking and there have been times where they’ve been bad in pass-protection as well, just not quite as often.

In addition to the offensive front, both the defensive line and secondary haven’t been as good as advertised. The defensive backfield has been soft and beaten far too often while the DL has struggled to get any kind of consistent pass-rush going, even with blitzing schemes.

All of that being said, let’s not forget about the talent and culture of this Clemson football program. You don’t get to the spot the Tigers are in without being legit.

Maybe they’re not as dominant as some fans would’ve hoped, but they’re still legitimate competitors for a National Title and the sky isn’t falling by any stretch of the imagination.
